Ken - The short Film
Tormented by gains, a gym bunny struggles to cope with social pressure and self-hate
A semi-autobiographical character study to raise awareness about muscle dysmorphia and disordered eating in men
Based on a true story: one man’s struggle with anxiety, muscle dysmorphia, and disordered eating.
JACK (30s) suffers from low self-esteem. Believing himself to be too small, he constantly measures himself; he compares himself to images of buff men on social media; he controls his food intake; he’s always at the gym and takes anabolic steroids – to the detriment of his job and finances.
A confronting visit to his parents ends in an explosion of anger, partly fueled by the drug abuse. This leads to a suicidal episode.
Depressed and drawn back from the brink, Jack calls for help. With support, he begins his journey to recovery.
